  1. Cool! Savate, old school savate, is very hard to find in the US.

  2. I was excited to see this video. I train Savate as part of JKD, and it has become a major part of my style. An earlier poster mentioned the coup de pied bas… there is a story at my gym of a former student who was attacked and successfully defended herself with a single coup de pied bas. It’s a very direct and crippling kick. If someone who doesn’t train asks to be taught a kick for self defense, thats the first one I teach because it is fairly simple but highly effective.

  3. @wmpyr You should of been in human weapon.

  4. @wmpyr They should of chose you for human weapon.

  9. You’ve done allot of martial arts including the western ones!

  10. Nice Video Sensei. I like all your tutorials. Thanks for the informative instructions.

  11. @DTGtaihojutsu that is great that you cross train with other styles, so important to keep an open mind :)

that was a really cool story. I have practiced with BJJ , Jeet Kune Do , Thai Boxers and Savate practioners. French foot fighting is amazing Sweep kicking “THE COUP DE PIED BAS” is amazing. La Canne is amazing too. Glad you enjoyed the experience. Thumbs up Sensei Wmpyr .

@wmpyr Absolutely the right path and much respect deserved brother!

  14. @LMarshall32 thanx bro, I was going to make a video about a horrible martial arts instructor but instead I decided to do this.

  15. @grim2630 thanx man! will try :)

  16. @JoeDurobot hey thanx for the info/comment! I had a few challenge matches, and because the rules were undefined, I was able to wear shoes and it gave me a huge advantage, if my opponents knew anything about Savate they would have worn shoes too or have been against me wearing shoes :)

  17. @BaByGoTtHeRuNz thanx, there is also a movie on youtube called Savate starring Olivier Grunner, if you get the chance check it out.

  18. @romeodelta1178 man that sounds hardcore, back when I was training, it was everyone’s dream to go visit over there, now many of the top teachers are living over here :)

  19. @DoryokuFiripin yeah when I was training in TKD I had a problem kicking with the shins because I would naturally be using the foot, the distance was not quite the same, and then going from Muay Thai to Savate was also tricky because now the toes can get through some of the conventional blocks!

  20. LMarshall32

    Very COOL all around!!!

  21. Great stuff bro, keep up the good work!

  22. Im french I and know about Savate.
Im not sure how popular it is in the US, it’s not very well known even in France unless you are into martial arts and other fighting styles.
Savate is a french word for “old shoe” it’s why you use your shoes for fighting.

  23. BaByGoTtHeRuNz

I have never heard of Savate but it sounds interesting. Great Vid!

  24. romeodelta1178

I got a bud who goes to Brazil twice a year to train with the Gracies.

  25. DoryokuFiripin

Savate is cool!! I like the emphasis they have on using the Shoe during combat. Helps alot for street fighting.

I do Muay Thai and have used Muay Thai to defend myself in the past (thank God I haven’t run into another scenario since) but I had this strange habit of kicking with my shin even though I had BOOTS on. Still, I’d like to learn Savate one day. Savate+Muay Thai=Deadly Combo!

  26. Looks so gay!!!

  27. not necessary to count he didn’t even move a muscle. a great fouette!

  28. magnifique KO !!!!

  29. @scancio7 Lolol.Well, that may be true…BUT…are there any savate guys in K-1? There are TKD guys in K-1 who punch kick and knee so it would seem that TKD guys know how to deal with punches.Perhaps the real diffrence is really a matter of training? That’s one of the 2 primary mottos of my gym:”IT’S NOT JUST WHAT YOU KNOW,IT’S HOW YOU TRAIN.”

  30. @ATACXGYM that you can knock your opponent out with both hands and feet and that savate people know how to deal with punches

  31. Despite the singlettes (hell, wrestlers wear ‘em) I like savate. The boxing hands and tkd-gungfu like speed, conditioning, finesse, technique, power, mobility. What’s the difference between Pro TKD and Pro Savate?
